Gavin McKenna has been invited to play in the week long Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament with Team BC in July 2017, which is a first for a Yukon Hockey player. The Brick tournament is recognized as North America’s foremost hockey tournament for players aged 9 and 10. It is held each year in the West Edmonton Mall and attracts some of the best 9 and 10 year olds from across North America. 14 teams are invited to participate in the tournament, with each team having a region to draw upon for players. As well, each team can carry three imports from regions not represented in the tournament i.e: Yukon. The regions include BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario (2 teams), Quebec, Atlantic Canada, Michigan, Minnesota, Connecticut, California, Illinois and Massachusetts. Many NHL players have participated in the Brick tournament including names like Jonathan Toews, Steven Stamkos, Austin Matthews, PK Subban, Jordan Eberle, Johnny Gaudreau and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. Through a two stage tryout, Gavin was selected as one of the players to represent BC at this prestigious tournament. Prior to playing at the Brick, Gavin will play with his BC teammates at the North American Classic tournament in Winnipeg and a Top Tier East tournament in Toronto.
