Concussion Protocol and Reporting

Sep. 13, 2019

Whitehorse Minor Hockey Association is committed to maintaining the health, well being and safety of all participants. WMHA is committed to following the Hockey Canada Concussion Policy for all players and teams.  Please see the attached policy from Hockey Canada that will be followed by our program for the upcoming 2019/2020 hockey season.  Also included with this policy is  a new concussion toolbox link that is a great tool for parents, coaches, trainers and players.

We ask all hockey families to learn about the prevention, recognition and response to the concussion injury, including responsible return to play protocol are encouraged to review the concussion policy and detailed information included in the toolbox link.  For more information please go to hockeycanada.ca

What to do if your athlete has suffered, or has the symptoms of a concussion...

Once a player has been identified as having a possible concussion they will be required to see a Doctor or professional at Physio Plus specializing in concussion protocols prior to returning to play.

As part of tracking and ensuring best practice and standards of this protocol we are asking parents to provide an email copy of the doctors note to myself and the coach stating the player is able to return to play.

In addition coaches are asked to email Tanya Mackenzie if an incident occurs so that she can begin the process of tracking.

Thank you for your cooperation
